Flows and campaigns: check Klaviyo sending conflicts

Someone can belong to a campaign audience while also waiting for a flow email. Whether that creates a useful sequence or two contradictory offers depends on the messages involved. Start with a shared timeline for a real sending scenario.

At a glance

Rank messages by purpose, urgency and whether another message can replace them. Test sending intervals and exclusions using test profiles. Klaviyo Smart Sending can skip messages; it does not decide their editorial priority. Record whether a skipped message is still needed later.

Build a shared timeline

For one test profile, record the campaign time, flow entry and each planned message. Add the actual offer and destination page. Two emails sent some time apart can still conflict if an older voucher contradicts the current sale. Conversely, a short usage guide can remain useful after a product campaign. What matters is the content the same person actually sees in sequence.

Set a priority for each message

Give each overlap a decision: send both, exclude one or arrange a new time for one. Klaviyo does not automatically send messages later when Smart Sending skips them. An important redemption guide should therefore not silently be treated like interchangeable promotion. Check sending permission separately from the interval. A technical gap does not make an otherwise unsuitable audience inclusion appropriate.

Illustrative example: signing up before an offer

A fictional shop announces a weekly offer at 10 am. A new subscriber is due to receive her first welcome email at 10.15 am. It contains a different benefit from the offer. The team decides to fulfil the sign-up promise first and exclude this profile from the campaign. Existing buyers remain eligible for the campaign. This describes a possible rule, rather than a universally suitable sending time.

Include four cases in the test matrix

  • New sign-up just before the campaign: record the expected first message.
  • Existing buyer outside a flow: check campaign eligibility and the valid offer.
  • Purchase between messages: reassess the next request to buy.
  • Skipped message: record the reason and any necessary follow-up.

Then compare the expected sequence with actual recipient activity. A preview alone does not demonstrate an overlap in sending logic.

Record the decision for the next send

Record an owner and a follow-up test for every affected message. If only particular offer emails conflict, adjust those first rather than the entire flow. Use the Klaviyo auditto turn the finding into a task that can be verified. The task is complete when both the intended and excluded scenarios have been demonstrated.
